    About K V

Kendriya Vidyalaya, (Central School in Hindi) is a system of central government schools for children of Central Government employees of India. The system came into existence in 1965 and has been affiliated with the CBSE since then. Initially called Kendriya Vidyalaya, it was started primarily to cater to the needs of the children of those in the defence services, who were often posted in remote locations. With the Army starting its own Army Public Schools, the service was extended (but not limited to) all Central Government employees.

The uniform curriculum followed across India aims to ensure that children of government employees do not face educational difficulties when their families are transferred from one place to another. The name change was a part of the drive to make it more Indian. This campaign led to a large part of the curriculum becoming Sanskrit and Shuddh Hindi based, including options for students to take social studies in Hindi or English. Sanskrit prayers and higher levels of Hindi curriculum were a part of the same campaign, which also included renaming of official titles, such as becoming Syndicate Organizations. Some Indian embassies abroad have this type of school for children of embassy officials and the expatriate Indian population (if parents are government employees). There are currently at least 1117 Kendriya Vidyalayas, including 4 abroad. These are divided into 25 regions, each headed by a Deputy Commissioner. Overall, there is a body known as the K.V. Sangathan which regulates the school and its norms. In such schools, children of top government officials and low-ranking government employees study together and this facilitates national integration at the grassroots level. Alumni of these schools can be found all over the world.

K.V. No. 1, Bikaner is one of the oldest institutions of this organization. It was established in 1964 when the Military School, Ganga Risala was taken over by the then Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Originally started in barracks, it now has its own building which has grown over time. Presently it caters to the varied educational needs of 1906 students as on 01/12/15. It is located on National Highway No. 11, opposite Dungar College, the largest postgraduate multi-faculty college of the city.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
