PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Bikaner has a rich and fascinating history that spans over five decades. The school’s genesis can be traced back to the year 1965, when the Indian government decided to establish a chain of central schools across the country to cater to the educational needs of the children of defense personnel and other central government employees.
The school was initially started as a civil sector school in a small building in the cantonment area of Bikaner, with just a handful of students and a few dedicated teachers. The school was known as Central School, Bikaner, and was affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

In 1972, the school was officially taken over by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), a autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and was renamed Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Bikaner. In 1980, the school started classes XI and XII, and soon became a full-fledged senior secondary school. The school’s academic performance improved significantly, with students consistently scoring high grades in board exams.
In 1985, the school shifted to its present location, a sprawling campus with modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities. The new campus provided a conducive learning environment, with ample space for sports, extracurricular activities, and other pursuits.
Today, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Bikaner is one of the premier educational institutions in the region, known for its academic excellence, discipline, and all-round development of students.
